HOW TO FEEL MISERABLE AS AN ARTIST
- Constantly compare yourself to other artists.
- Talk to your family about what you do and expect them to cheer you on.
- Base the success of your entire career on one project.
- Stick with what you know.
- Undervalue your expertise
- Let money dictate what you do.
- Bow to Societal Pressures.
- Only do work that your family would love.
- Do whatever the client/customer/gallery owner/patron/investor asks.
- Set unachievable/overwhelming goals. To be accomplished by tomorrow.

hey cat,
I'm not sure, but let me know if you figure it out. :)
I just looked at your sketchbook page on your website...it looks great. I love the really loose watercolor your using and your pen drawing is getting really good. My favorites were the first one that came up (the B&N lady, and the one of "Christina"...I think that's what it said). Nice stuff!
Cat - I just checked out your sketchbook and I love it! I really like a lot of the compositions and detail.. sweet! Taxes- freelance..right? I'll have to check for sure but it might be similar to owning your own business- or what a lot of my firends do here-- sell real estate and write a ton off in taxes. Aid in business growth?? Ill have to find out more.
friends...spelling off..
This might be a good question for the Illus. Academy alumni forum. I'm sure there are plenty on there who have written it off before.
I'm going to have my taxes done tomorrow, and I'll let you know what I find out. From past experience taking design and work related courses, you had to earn a certain percentage of your income from that field to be able to write off the course. I think you might be able to spread it out over a couple of years though. I think they realize you might not be able to recoup the entire course within the first year.
